UNC/Florida State
I'm sure some of you by now have heard about Roy Williams pulling (most of) his players off the floor with about 15 seconds left to play against Florida State in anticipation of the crowd storming the court.
Apparently Williams now says he didn't realize his five scrubs were still out on the court and he thought FSU coach Leonard Hamilton had agreed to call the game early. Quote:

Not according to UNC's official story. They're saying Williams approached Hamilton and asked if he was okay calling the game.

Seriously though, what's the protocol in this situation if you're an official? Just shrug your shoulders, not cause an additional scene? What in the rule book allows a team and coach to just walk off the court without declaring a forfeit?

As a practical matter, if it's a "forfeit" the score and all stats stand (because 30 minutes had been played) and it doesn't need an asterisk because the non-forfeiting team was ahead. |
