Compression leg sleeve?

Boys HS. Player had on a compression sleeve on each leg. They claimed they were for medical reasons and had a waiver supporting that.

Partner asked about them and the player showed that they were actually sleeves and not tights. They started about mid thigh and extended down to mid-shin or so.

I know tights below the knee or shorts are illegal but what about leg sleeves?

You might want a local ruling to decide what is appropriate. Based on the way I understand the rule this is not illegal to wear a sleeve. Your state might take a different approach to this and really you need to take this from them. A medical wavier might need to be from the state, not just something simply from a doctor. They cannot were casts on their arms and shoulders even if they have a waiver, so that means nothing unless your state or region recognizes such waiver.

Peace

Don't go looking for trouble when there isn't any.

I would allow it and follow up with a report to your state and/or local assigner.

Had a player with two of them on his legs the other night. Looked dorky, but the sleeve rule refers to arm sleeves. Nothing to report IMO.

Maybe, but the unusual nature of the issue would lead me to send a quick email.

The R:

Go back to your rule book. You will see that the compression sleeve to which the rule pertains is for arms. Your situation is a non-issue because it is not prohibited.

On a side note, I'm curious about how these feel and ordered some to try. If I like them, they may take the place of long tights.

I had a Muslim team a few years back. Players arms and legs were completely covered. All legal. No compressions, but could easily have been taken for them.

Had my commissioner question me on a player in a game I recently work. He was there and noticed a player with what appeared to him to be a compression sleeve. We had noticed it too in the pregame but upon a closer look, it was a wrap of some sort. Looked like either an ace bandage or some flexible athletic tape. We chose to allow it and deemed it not a compression sleeve.

Tomegun:

This product seems to be good for shin splints and I know when I officiated H.S. soccer there was one season I could have used these instead of hoping a trainer would be present at the game to tape before the game.
