Official collapses; Game called off

Anyone hear about this? Just read it online. Longwood U. is serviced by CAA officials so there is a good possibility the official is from my neck of the woods.

Norfolk State’s match at Longwood was canceled until further notice after an official collapsed on the court during the game and had to be taken to the hospital.
Norfolk State led 4-3 with 17:30 left in the half when play was stopped after the official fell to the floor on the Spartans’ offensive side of the court. The teams were sent to their locker rooms and medical personnel on hand performed CPR and used an on-site defibrillator.
The Prince Edward Rescue Squad continued CPR as the official, whose name and condition are being withheld at this time, was taken to Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville at approximately 2:20 p.m. The official was airlifted to the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond near 4 p.m., according to a Centra Southside Community Hospital spokesperson.
The game will be made up at a later date if possible.

Thank goodness for the AED. Prayers for a full recovery.

Just got some more info. It was a NCAA-W game. Official who collapsed is relatively young. I've seen her around during the AAU tournaments and local camps. Would say she is no older than her early 30's, if that.

One of her partners in the game is in my HS association.

Was she OK?

Peace

Hope she is alright. Sounds like the AED may habe made the difference.

This story hit close to home too. Last year we had an official in our association collapse and pass away on the court during a game. The rest of that season was not a fun time to work.

Wow. This is the first I've heard of this but I used to work for the guy who assigns Longwood women's and there is a good chance I know who this official is.

Will have to try and get more info. Regardless of who it is, I hope they are ok.

I know the official in question and heard of the situation from a supervisor we both work for. As of this afternoon she was at Medical College of Virginia in a medically induced coma. She is a great young official. Praying for the best.

Scary stuff. We've lost two football officials on the field in the past 10 years to massive heart attacks. I pray she recovers.

I just found out who the official is.

She is in my high school association, I worked with her on the AAU circuit this summer, and know her personally.

Thoughts and prayers for a full and speedy recovery. Another reminder to not take anything for granted.

Anyone have an update? This is such a terrible thing that, well, could happen to any of us.

One of my local schools had a large advertisement for the AED when the AED first came on campus:

John Smith
1946 - 2006 - ????

To this day, it is the best ad I have ever seen.

Prayers for a full recovery indeed.

Saturday night I work with a guy who works for the same college assignor as the young lady, I will get an update then.

Hopefully it will be "she's awake and recovering".

Taking a step back from the sadness of this issue, is there any procedure at that level of going to a 2-man crew when one goes down (typically to injury)?
