Another situation that happend to me in the last week.
i was entering thr circle to administer the jump ball at the beginning of the game and after making the toss but before the ball is legally tapped my partner called to repeat the jump ball because it was not properly executed, but before i did it again player from home team pushed player from gust team it was rough manner which i called as an unsportmanlike foul.the foul is penalised with 2 free throws for team b then jump ball..BUT since the game didn't open right i think it's should be a technical foul during an interval of play. do you agree with me? and ps i think i should count that foul of the team fouls also not? david

You're speaking FIBA rules, which most of us are not familiar with.
Under NFHS rules, it would be: 1- a technical foul, which would count toward the bonus, 2- two FTs and the ball for the offended team. And no, it doesn't just happen to you, it happens to everyone from time to time. But you need to be better versed on the rules, so you'll know how to handle these situations. |

hello romano
well..you right in both cases. first..you right in your call for foul..and because the game didnt start yet.. this call is a call during an interval of play and the punishment is 2 shots..and of course jump ball and second..you should count that foul in the team fouls. dromi |

Romano, the foul must be called unsportsmanlike not technical. Technical foul is a "no contact foul". From time to time these type of games will happen.

Is this a FIBA rule? [/B][/QUOTE] no it's not FIBA rule. NICK the foul must be called TECHNICAL because the game wasn't opened yet..so we can't call unsportmanlike foul when game isn't played. think about that..

It does not matter whether the game is being played under NFHS, NCAA Men's/Women's, or FIBA rules, the foul is an unsportsmanlike technical foul. The key is how the ball is put into play after the free throws are shot. Under NFHS rules, the team who shot the free throws gets the ball for a throw-in at the division line opposite the S/T Table. The arrow is set toward the thrower's opponent's basket when the ball is placed at the disposal of the thrower for the throw-in. Under NCAA Men's/Women's and FIBA rules the ball is put into play after the technical foul free throws with a jump ball.

Romano, suggest you have a look at definition of technical foul: Rule seven (fouls), Article 49, Technical foul by a player. Pushing by home team player on a guest player in a rough manner for you to make a call is contact. The unsportsmanlike technical foul rule is no longer current. You start the game with 2 shots then the jumpball at the center circle.

NICK
i think that i said before that i will open the game with 2 shots and J' BALL. THE unsportsmanlike technical foul rule is no longer EXSIT! so what is the right thing to do? unsportmanlike foul? ..i don't think so. it must be something else. ps even if i call just a simpel foul before i have opened the game properly it will be 2 shots and jump ball at the center circle.

Romano, if call was technical or unsportsmanlike you will still end up having 2 shots before the jumpball. If you call a simple foul before jumpball, you cannot have 2 shots then jumpball. Suggest you do not call a foul or if you do, it has to be unsportsmanlike as game has not started and the fouler has played the man not the ball.

NICK
again but if i do call a simple foul before jumpball i must open the game with 2 shots and jump ball because it's a foul during an interval of play so anywhy in FIBA it's 2 shots and jump ball for sure if in the us there is a diffrent rule about that i will be happy to know. if there is another officals in this forum that using the FIBA rules please tell me what you think. thank you. david
