When you first get out of bed, if your feet and legs feel as though they are asleep or a little numb and it goes away after a few minutes, more than likely it is heel spurs. See your dr. and let him give you the news.

I would go see an orthopedic doctor that has a sports background. Unfortunately a podiatrist might know issues with feet, but they might not understand a sports background or have the mentality of an athlete in mind. In other words, they may not realize what you are trying to get back doing like someone that has an orthopedic, sports medicine background. And if it is something like plantar fasciitis, the sports doctor will know what you need to do to perform, rather than to just make it OK for you to walk.
I am speaking from some experience as I tore a hamstring several years ago and one doctor took and claimed I would not be able to work games for over a month and possibility longer and the orthopedic doctor told me what I needed to do to get ready for two different sports and put me on some rehabilitation that speed up the time I got back. I would go to the doctor before spending money on over the counter remedies that may make the situation worse or not treat the actual problem. Peace

Spenco ARCH SUPPORTS, Orthotic 3/4 Length RX™ (43-158) | Best Insoles These are the best thing next to custom orthotics. Been using them for 15 years after a podiatrist recommended them. No heel pain or plantar fasciitis.

I'll also point out that, since you alreay have some pain, it won't go away in a day just by wearing these insoles. Depending on your age, it might take a month or more (but it won't get worse). |

If you are going to go the route of inserts with out going to a Dr., I would suggest finding a Dr Shoals kiosk at almost any Walmart. You stand on it without shoes, the machine will evaluate your relative pressure points on the bottom of the foot, it will then recommend one of the 15 or 20 different inserts they sell.
Not custom prescribed but better than a one insert fits all approach. |

Try new shoes. Heel pain is when I knew it was time.

Probably because the shoes no longer provide proper arch support.

I had gone trough a bed period of foot pain a few years ago and tried a lot of stuff. Then I got my SuperFeet. For the first couple of wearings, it actually hurt a little more. But, within about 10 days, the pain I had had for months was largely gone. Or never really did.
