Question Am I getting soft in my old age?

I've worked 11 kids rec games over the past two weekends and I haven't given out even one technical! Not only that, I haven't had even a single complaint by a coach! Plus - I've had a lot of parents thank me. Either somebody's putting something in the water or I've just been dreaming for two weeks.

BTW - one of the 5th grade boys games today had a final score of 51-9. Gee, that was fun.

Well considering that Mark started this thread and where my mind is right now, I was thinking the direction of this thread was going in another place. I just have to be honest.

Peace

If that's what I meant, I would have posted it on a different board.

Exclamation OK - maybe I'm not getting soft, but.....

I definitely am getting old. I saw a ref buddy of mine at the grocery store this morning. We are both working the same fall kids rec league, although we haven't been scheduled together yet this season. We have worked lots of games together over the years, though. He told me that last spring, when we worked a 5th grade boys game together, he figured out that, assuming the boys were no older than 12, the combined ages of the two of us was a higher number than the combined ages of all 10 starters in the game! Knowing how old both of us are, I thought about it and he's right! Man - I am old.

Is this an algebra problem?

Yes. Take out the slide rule from the chest pocket on the front of your jersey.

I've Got A Slide Rule And I'm Not Afraid To Use It ...

Mark Padgett: Man, you really are ignorant. The only proper way to carry a slide rule is to carry it in a leather holster attached to one's belt. If one were to carry a slide rule in one's chest pocket, even if it were in a pocket protector, one's friends would make sport of this slide rule fashion fau paux. Yet another reason why officials should be allowed to wear belts, as long as the belt is black.

Of course, there is another option, the slide rule tie clip. My high school chemistry teacher, Mr. Dalton, had one of these, and, man, did he look cool wearing it. And, the slide rule tie clip is a real chick magnet.

I used to know how to use a slide rule, about 30 years ago. I lost interest when I realized it had no function for team fouls.

Multiplication, and division? Yes. Reciprocals? Yes. Logarithms? Yes. Sines, and cosines? Yes. Tangents, and cotangents? Yes. Squares, and square roots? Yes. Cubes, and cube roots? Yes. Some slide rules even had a measuring ruler function.

Addition? Unfortunately, no. Back then, in the midtwentieth century, we had to use a mechanical adding machine for addition.
