In Iowa, we used to have 6-player basketball for girls. Essentially a glorified version of 3 on 3. Not, thankfully, since I've been officiating. But in that game, it was illegal for a girl to touch the ball while being held outside the lane. I believe the call was, "Illegal use of the hands."
I don't remember if the penalty included an automatic first down or not. Adam
