Situation--Team A is in the 1 and 1--Player from Team A takes "shot" at wrong basket and is fouled--basket goes in

Heres what i did let me know if it is right please or what you would have done.

I did not count the basket for Team b as i ruled the play dead upon A being fouled (no continuos motion since attemp by A was not really a try by definition) -since team A was in a 1 and 1 situation i took ball down to the other end and gave them the 1 and 1-- is this rigth?

By the way it wass fun explaining this to both coaches

If you can, would you explain where the advantage/ disadvantage occured?

som44,
Employing the Tower Philosophy and a little levity, if an opponent is shooting at the wrong basket and is fouled, and subseqently misses scoring two points for the other team, then has the shooter actually been placed at a disadvantage?

After he shoots, and if he misses, he may not rebound the ball or dribble or pass until the ball is touched by another player.
After he shoots, and if he makes it, he just scored points for the wrong team.

Perhaps (and I offer this only for discussion) unless we see a hard or flagrant foul the shooter is not disadvantaged by an opponent at all.

Mick,
If the shooter hasn't dribbled yet, I believe that there is nothing wrong with him rebounding the ball in this case.

I agree. I wonder, what are the chances that a player gets a quick pass in the direction of the wrong basket and shoots, and misses?
