In fact, I'll go as far as to say that all you need to be a good official is rules knowledge.

(Happy now?)

I can't believe you did that!! Now let's just see if he finds it and uses it for the proof I've been asking for! :D

Chuck

Well fer cryin' out loud, SOMEBODY had to do it!!!

:D

I guess this answers the question that has been in my head: Do you guys enjoy the fighting with him over stupid $hit unrelated to actual basketball questions?

OTOH, maybe the 7 page thread answered my question already... I imagine you guys waiting at your desks, hitting refresh... waiting for Rut to respond with some offbeat answer to a normal query or to find offense in some innocent question or answer. Then you can lambast him for taking offense and so on.

You guys need each other!

The "Original" Tee

We're all one big happy family, and every year we all get together, get drunk & have a big fight. Some try to break it up, but some of us (like Tim C & JR) just keep their seat at the table, sipping their scotch while yelling "hit him again! hit him again!"

Takes all kinds...:)

Tee Fri Feb 28, 2003 03:52pm

Sorry Tim C.- there was no intent to deceive or offend when I selected the nickname. I simply did a search to see if it was being used. Finding that no one had registered it, I did. Furthermore, I read several days post, and failed to note your occasional use of the nickname on the bottom of your posts.

That being said, if you feel that people are confused by my using a name that I have been called most of my life, I will find another.

Just to be safe- does anyone else have a name (or a letter) that they use occasionally- but have not registered? I would not want to offend any other insecure people:)

Hey John;

Your post said "he asked for the ball" did the official ever blow the whistle? Should we start another thread on whether or not to stop the action for a "hung" net? Seems like one can o'worms can lead to another.

John Chladek Fri Feb 28, 2003 04:01pm

Denny-

I honestly can't remember, but I think he did, to get the attention of the girl about to inbound. I would love someone to start a thread on that topic. I think this one has run its course!

Nah, I just get tired of his repeated propagation of erroneous interpretations and techniques and unwillingness to admit even obvious mistakes.

I just hope to set the record straight lest any newbie believes him.

No, the only other insecure person here, besides the other Tee, is Rut and he won't read this post since he thinks it's rule related.

Can I please come this year? I don't like fighting, but I would like to sit off to the side and talk shop with y'all. I'll earn my way if necessary, by being the designated driver. I promise to laugh at all the jokes, and not to call anyone names. Just let me know the date.

Juulie - while we're on the subject of substitutions, why don't you tell everybody what it says on your bumper sticker?

We're still waiting.

When I got a new car in September, it was the first time that it was really "my" car and not "ours". My husband said I could have bumper stickers if I wanted which he doesn't allow on his. The first thing I did was send away to MaineStickah.com and bought a custom made bumper sticker that said,

"Stop Serial Substitutions!!"

I had to do a lot of explaining. I've taken it off though. Needed the room for the new one, which I won't quote here since the subject is apparently off-limits on a basketball board, as it pertains to a certain military action which may be pending.

If you were playing by NBA rules, the sub would not be allowed in this situation.

"An official can suspend play for retrieving an errant ball, re-setting the timing devices, delay-of-game warning, inadvertent whistle or ANY OTHER UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCE. During such a suspension, neither team is permitted to substitute and only the offensive team can request a timeout. Play shall be resumed at the point of interruption."
