Colleague of mine reffed a HS Varsity boys game at the home gym of a coach known to be a bit of a jerk.

Late in the game, H1 (his starting centre) subs into the game, walks up to my buddy, and says "coach says I'm supposed to tell you that I have four fouls".

What do you do?

Say thanks and trot away. Admit to yourself that your being set-up!

I don't think I could pass this one up! I would probably say some smart a$$ thing like "thanks for telling me, do you think we should tell the other ref as well. Maybe we should announce it on the intercom in case no one else in the gym knows."

I'd say, "Okay."

My reply would have been, "tell your coach that if he does this again, he'll have one foul".

I would say OK, then call the weakest thing I could find. Then he will have 5 fouls.
