What do I think? I think that that the officials from that game have a story that is probably completely different than your's. Until they tell their story,I don't think that either complimenting you OR criticising you would be appropriate.

This is exactly why the NBA drives me crazy. It has become more of a circus than a game. I don't think this type of announcing has any acceptable place in the game...at any level.
Go to a D-1 college game. Totally professional when it comes to the PA announcer (at least in the ACC). Only says what is needed and let's the game be played without a lot of distraction.

I'd like to know the situation were the travel was called? Are you aware that one can travel without taking a step?

To borrow the phrase "my two cents".....
I once "put my foot down" on an announcer because, during a JV boys game, when the visiting team was shooting a free throw, the announcer was playing music. I instructed him to cut the music off by the time I bounced the ball to the shooter. He agreed with no problems.

Without seeing the ref's account, here's my thought.
The ref's in a stressful situation, and has to listen to the PA announcer to know where the shot clock is. Suddenly, the PA announcer has, effectively, been drafted into "official" status. Then he starts using words that can cause a little confusion for the ref.
Frankly, I don't see this as "way out of line." He was probably pissed that you didn't listen to him, so after that he's bound to be a bit grumpy with you.
My advice? Cut the guy some slack, and next time you're in a similar situation, follow his direction.

I've addressed announcers before. Usually goes something like this. On a shooting foul the announcer says something along the lines of "#23 at the line shooting a pair". I'll respond with, "No, he's shooting a basketball".
