Folks, this isn't good satire - it's regular terrible college "writing." You learn to ignore it after a few issues of the campus paper.

And,
And the Guy with the law degree says, "How can I take advantage of this situation, sue someone without cause, and get a big retainer?"
Since I have a "Masters" in Journalism I recognize how worthless that field is . . . I also have a "Masters" in Linguistics, now there is a useful degree. |

JR,
Two good lines:
Carly Simon once had an album titled "Cunning Stunts" . . . I think you can see where that one went, And of course in one of the latest James Bond movies a line was, "James, you're such a cunning linguist". Oh well, back to work. |
Response
I sent an e-mail to this guy giving him my 2 cents.....which along with 98 other cents buys you a cup of coffee.
This was his response..... Sir, I apologize for the satire. The statement payback is coming refered to Creighton. Sorry for the mixup. I am sincerely sorry. We had a letter to editor in yesterday's paper about it. It was just to be taken as an off-the-wall satire. Best wishes, Zack Creglow So...I guess we can turn off the flame throwers now. He's a kid....he learned....lets move on. |
and another reply
He also sent me this....
Sir, I feel like we are playing email tag since I just sent that 5 minutes ago. I guess we are both on our lunch break. Ever since that column, honestly, I have been in a depressed state. I have been nauseated and can hardly go through my daily life. When the SIU-Creighton game nears, I plan to run something positive about officials. Truth be told, my uncle and cousin are officials. I don't believe those things I wrote. When I wrote crooked, I meant biased. But I know officials are people. I understand that. I just basically want this heat to end. It was written over a week ago in a college paper. I understand everyone is pissed(officials) but I was just trying to humor a college campus. That isn't easy. I should have taken a higher road when I did it. But I am 19 and will make mistakes along my journey. I know that. Actually, I am damned lucky to be able to work at this good of a college newspaper. It was a rated the top college newspaper. I am just a freshman and haven't had a class yet. I work my *** off though. My dad taught me that, he owns a concrete construction company and told me to never to slack. So last year in high school, I worked at a newspaper, so that I can get on here. I got lucky. I come from a great family who is supportive. I have a very dry humor. Those who know and read me before, understand that when they saw my column. And I am very sarcastic, so if someone didn't know me or read me, they'd think I am cocky little pissant. Hope you can convey this to others, Best wishes, Zack Creglow |
Satire Huh?
So Zack used wit in the form of outright derision to expose our wickedness or folly? Someone please enlighten me! He crossed the line when he satirically called for the physical beating of a referee. I agree with Larks the kid probably learned a great deal more than he's bargained for when he sat down to write the article. I never wrote him so will hold back my flame thrower. Along those same lines, I remember reading some state is considering statutes treating attacks on referees the same as attacks on police officers. I believe I saw this in the Sunday paper last weekend. Anyone know about this? |
The kid made some poor word choices trying to look big in the school paper. We made him realize it and probably benifited ourselves by enlightening this kid on how hard we work to be the best we can be. Bottom line. He badmouthed "us" we called him on it, he apologized and hopefully learned, lets move on. If only everyone who looks at officials in a negative light could come to realize this.

I remember Ga. Tech winning the National Championship (football) a few years back. The coaches poll gave the trophy to Ga Tech, while the sports writers went with Colorado.
The Tech fans said that if the sports writers who voted for the Buffs were such great writers, they would all be novelists! I'd say this gut has a short career ahead of him! |
