I started to call this thread, "Nailin' That Puppy!" but that sounds so cruel.

Okay, two 8th grade games, one girls' and then one boys'-- each game two hours!!. Floor solid cement with the occasional pock mark, OOB lines under the spectators chairs, except on the end lines where they were right at the wall. Partner well-intended and pleasant, but inexperienced and inconsistent, and terrible mechanics; three loud, obnoxious coaches, one really loud, obnoxious parent, a stage full of rowdy MS boys, and brand new table people.

Best games of my career!!! I handled the coaches, kept my partner on the straight and narrow, without embarrassing or upsetting him, didn't twist anything on that Gawd-awful floor, kept track of the table, and got everything right. Could hardly sleep last night. Felt great!

Of course, it helped that I got my first varsity game assignment -- Jan 4.

Remember Roberto Begnini receiving his Oscar by walking down on the chairs? That's how I'm feeling these days, and I like it!!

DJ --

Saturday, Jan 4, at 4:00. Warner Pacific College. Portland Christian, against ??

I don't know if FasTixx or TicketMaster are carrying the tickets, and I can't leave you any complimentary at the "box office." But if you come, we'll shout you and your wife a RootBeer afterwards, if you promise to say nice things, and only notice one major mistake.

Juulie - bet you can't wait until our rec season starts so you can have some calm, no-pressure, fan friendly games for a group that doesn't allow any criticism directed at officials by players, coaches or spectators. Oh yeah - you'll work with experienced partners, some of whom are Board members of the league so absolutely no nonsense takes place.

You don't have to pinch yourself, you're not dreaming. See you at the next meeting on the 5th. I'll have your jersey that night for you.
