By the way, I HATE long speeches at captains' meetings. Like: who has contacts, asthma, inhalers, diabetes?, play the black line all the way around, don't stop if you hear the horn-just the whistle, keep it clean, hands off, no hand-checking or rough play, be sure to get out of the lane before three seconds, no jewelry, hair clips, shirts tucked in, wait for us to beckon subs, have fun, let's have a good game. Any questions, LADIES (or GENTLEMEN)? (another pet peeve) Players rolling eyeballs to ceiling and yawning. Wake up partner. Toss ball. |

We have arm bars U.P. here, but mostly in college. Your "Hated speech" was very well written. :) mick |
Marty, an arm bar is when the defensive player uses the forearm to hold ground (or push against) the offensive post player.
Where are you in MA? I'm near Springfield. Chuck |

I knew I had seen an arm bar before! We just call it a foul around here. Seriously, I haven't heard any HS refs use that term. I live south of Boston, near Brockton. |

Thanks for answering for me, folks. Been a busy day. Everyone around here calls this position an arm bar. Refs are the only ones that call it a foul.

I don't go beyond asking them is they would like to "join us at the captains' meeting". mick |
My pregame....
I was working rec ball last night, and I told my partner about what I consider the ultimate pregame I've actually used:
Red. White. Be good. The be good covers the sportsmanship requirement :) My partner was laughing so hard he almost fell over. Actually, I lied -- I've never used this one, but I told him I did because he spent forever talking about stuff like the "black line all the way around." I just want him to shorten his. Rich |
