Coach sat on a ball the whole game.

I hadn't seen this before. Youth tournament, 6 games in a row (some guys worked 9 or 10.) The best team in the girls division ran a great high post offense with very good cuts to the basket and everyone could handle the ball. The odd thing was the coach sat on one end of the bench on a ball for the entire game.

6 games in a row is too much...did they not have enough bodies to work?

He was obviously trying to hatch a new point guard to run his offense. Any animal husbandry specialists here this morning? Anybody know the gestation period for basketball hatchlings?

This is normal where I am at and NO we really don't have enough people to avoid this. Sat I did 6 in a row, 1 off, 2 more. Sunday 6 in a row and home.

In a couple weeks we have 2 tournamnets in two cities 4 miles apart in two states. One is girls the other boys. They get teams from miles away because they advertise the use of registered officials intead of volunteers. To cover this we will average 10 games/day. This is MS 6-8 "elite" teams.

pretty routine here also...some of the guys/gals will go all day, hour long games, 2 20 minute halves, running clock, etc.....one guy did 12 in one day!!! i did the last four (i'm not as young as i used to be!), and during the last game one kid (6th grade) verbally protested a foul. my partner said, in a not so quiet voice,"now is NOT the time to question my calls..."

lots of guys do 6-8 games...i don't like to do more than four. but, what do you do? our pool is shrinking, and no one wants to ref.

Is "elite" considered above or below "competitive"?

These are the supposed "all star" teams from cities. Kids may go to different schools in a city and be on this team for tournaments.

Oh. So, they do not have cardigan warm-ups.

Sometimes not even "legal" uniforms.

I keep hearing about these weekend games, but somehow I never seem to run into one of them. So they actually exist, huh?

Once or twice a summer, I go and work a "day" of baseball. Youth games, time-limited. We start about 8AM and finish at about 10PM. I'm there for one reason, the paycheck. In those games, the pay comes to about $30/hour. I take the money and sock it away for a long weekend away with the family. One day last season I worked 7 consecutive baseball games -- I did the first 4 plates.

I couldn't imagine doing this kind of thing more often. Someone has to work these games, but it's not me. More power to those of you who do, I guess.

Our first weekend was Jan 8-9. We also have/had them: Jan22-23, Jan 29-30, Feb 5-6, Feb 12-13, Feb 26-27, March 5-6, March19-20.

There are others but these are the ones within a 10 mile radius from my house. Games start at 8 and last game is at 7pm - 3-7 gyms.

Game fees are $25/game. In 4 of them officials can eat/drink free. The others give you a certain amoung of monopoly type money you can spend on food and beverages.

I helped pay for daughters wedding one year with the money. Another year bought the wife a new washer/dreyer. Once flew us to my sister's in Colorado for a week. It's fun money usually.
