Shot clock reset?

A1 shoots with 20 seconds on the shot clock, the ball misses the rim, and there is a scramble for the ball, near the endline. The ball is struck so that it hits the floor and bounces over the endline in the air, heading out of bounds. B2 jumps in the air, secures control of the ball with 2 hands, throws the ball back towards inbounds, and then lands out of bounds. A2 catches the ball that was "saved" by B2. The shot clock is now at 16.

Players, while in the air and in control of the ball, calling time-out to prevent a back court violation or prevent an out-of-bounds violation are ignored.

Also, a player's location status in the air is that of when he was last touching the floor.

Should the shot clock be reset to 35 b/c when B2 controlled the ball in the air while "saving" it, that was a change in team possession?

Please show me where this rule is. Is this College or HS?

I am thinking you are talking College.

Official's judgment. Taking you at your word that B had control, then yes, reset the shot clock.

The "can a TO be granted" question is just a way (under HS rules) to help officials assess whether there was control.

Yes, that is true under NCAA & NBA rulesets.

Sounds like the defense gained possession... new 35.
What happened?
