"But the Ball Never Went OB!!!"
Never called it before until last night.
A1 has player control with ball in his hands inbounds next to the endline. B1 comes along and, with one foot on the line, reaches out and touches the ball. Tweet. OOB violation on B1 who caused the ball to have OOB status. Coach, who, by the way, gets the ball for a throwin anyway, exclaims, "But my guy never stepped OOB!" Partner takes a second to clarify the situation to him. "I never knew that," comment follows and life goes on. Then . . . Fourth quarter, the same situation occurs on a sideline but with the team roles reversed. Partner nails it according to the same rule. Never happened in any game I can recall that I've done before, and here it happens twice in the same game! Did not occur in any last-second attempt to stop the clock, which the exception to this rule seems to address. I post it here in case we got it wrong.

If it is in the last seconds of a game/quarter and a team causes an inbounds ball to go OOB, it is a violation and there is no reason to not call it...even if it stops the clock with just 2-3 seconds left.

I Bet It Was A Very Old Coach ...
If I read the original post correctly, it used to be a throwin violation for a throwin player to pass the ball to any player, teammate, or opponent, out of bounds. This was way back in the 1970's.
