Question OK - what do you do here?

Two person mechanics, FED rules. A1 shooting the second of two free throws. You are trail. The ball hits the rim and bounces away staying on the court but your partner, at lead, blows his whistle and gives the "swerlie" mechanic with his hand and says the thrower violated by the ball not hitting the rim. You tell him you had a clear view of the shot and it definitely hit the rim. He says OK.

Do you go to the AP or use POI? If you think you should use POI, then what would it be?

You'd go to the point of interruption which in this case happens to be the AP.

POI, which is a beer after the game supplied by your partner for making this call from lead.

This actually happened twice in my game last night, with it happening to each team once. At least he was calling it both ways.

Pet Peeve

This is actually one of my pet peeves. Trail has flight of the ball. If lead is watching the ball then no one's watching his lane positions for violations or fouls.

I worked 4 games on Saturday with a guy who did this all day. And, they were youth games which meant it happened a lot. I mentioned the proper coverage to him, and it was like talking to a wall.

Poi - (-tc) = ap

Ditto. POI which, because no team control existed at the whistle, would be AP.

BTW, I can't find that "swerlie" mechanic in the back of the book. Can't figure out why.

Now, if only that ridiculous "on the floor!" signal could suffer the same demise.

It's AP because there was no team control and there was no infraction, goal, end of quarter/period involved. There are situations where the whistle is blown with no team control and the POI would not be the arrow.
