I could not believe it!

I viewed a JV game prior to my varsity game the other night.
Both officials nor the coaches did not realize that the teams where
shooting at the wrong basket. One of the coaches then yells like crazy
there shooting the wrong way, their shooting the wrong way.
Both officials went to the table and bought the coaches over as if
to ask them what to do? Please know that Team A had already scored
4 points prior to coming to the realization. I ask my self How would I
have handled this. Hell, I was not sure. Can anyone help?
Thanks alot, Angel.

Easy. Once you realize both teams are going the wrong way, blow the play dead, switch directions, and play on. All points and fouls count. This is an officials mistake and not a correctable error.

Not a correctable error but certainly an embarrassing one and will most likely cause the coaches/fans to question every call you make the rest of the evening.

Case book plays 5.2.1 Situation E and 5.2.1 Situation F deal with teams going the wrong direction.

The question I have is how can you be critical of the JV officials who let this happen, when you, the varsity official, do not know the solution?

You should have your rule book & case book with you, and although you probably do not want to dig it out of your bag while watching, you surely can do it at half time in the locker room. Any plays that occur that you are not sure of, you can look up while it is fresh. I have done this even after a game of mine when I have wondered if I made the correct ruling. One thing is for sure, if it ever DOES happen to you, you now will know the correct procedure.

I had a similar question.

1. How can you "not believe it?" It happens all the time.
2. How does a varsity official not know how to resolve this?

1 - All the time? Maybe in YOUR games I don't recall ever seeing this happen.
2 - Ideally each varsity official would know the book inside and out. But we all know that isn't the case. So why give her crap for making an effort to learn?

Well around these parts, Angel is usually a girls name. I apologize to Angel if I assumed incorrectly.

The crap is not coming here to get the right answer. The crap was (rightfully) directed at him/her crapping on the JV officials.

I just went back and re-read the OP. I see where you're coming from. The first time through I read only for content, not attitude. I humbly withdraw my attitude
