Technical or Warning

GJV, Home Coach angry at not getting some calls, loudly enough for her entire bench to hear, tells #12, "Katie, you're not going to get those calls tonight. They're only JV Officials." I almost T'd her, but instead yelled a warning that that was her last shot...she heard me, but ignored me....Was I wrong?

I believe that's one you condone if you don't penalize. T.

And when she asks why she got a T (because she will), just say it's because she hurt your feelings.

Seriously, this is a T every time.

Hmm, this brings up something a coach said to me the other night in a girls freshman game.

Coach was yelling across the floor at my partner "Foul! Travel! Foul!"

When the ball was dead, I went to the coach and said, "Coach, we're willing answer questions but yelling across the floor at us and demanding calls is not appropriate."

He slapped me on the back and said, "No problem. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." and walked away smirking.

I wish I had been carrying Mark Padgett around in my hip pocket for a clever comeback. Alas, I didn't have one.

I should have T'd her....I put air in the cheeks, and then hesitated....not my usual style for that type of coach-comment....but, he who hesitates is lost, so they say....thanks for the comments....

I would have probably rolled my eyes at that one and moved on.

WHAP! No brainer to me. Pretty much anytime a coach tries to show up an official, especially in front of the kids, they are going to get whacked.

Welpe Fri Dec 10, 2010 11:18am

Oh yeah I'm serving T on this one. It's so easy after the fact isn't it? :)

No Brainer WHACK!

Had my first T of the season last night. GV game. Visiting HC had been warned already in the game for being out of the box complaining. I call a foul as Trail early in the 4th quarter on one of his girls who is trying to strip the ball from the home's point guard out front. After I report, he is standing there with his arms out to the side and starts chirping (He acted like a child all night...stomping around and trying to officiate for us). I give him the stop sign and tell him I've heard enough and the hand gestures need to stop. He starts to say something else and I keep my hand up, so he goes to sit down, but as he sits down he gives me the "wave off". Tweet....whack.

Didn't hear anything else the rest of the game.

Not advisable to yell anything at a coach, ever. If you have something to say to the coach, it can wait until you're close. You can speak quietly. You have the authority. jmo
