Obtuse question

Certainly not in manual, I often have a problem counting team members as U1 or U2. 14,15,16 players swirling around doing various drills. I get 'em seperated and 2,3 come flying in like a swarm of bees. Silly, yes , but any thoughts on proper accounting? Make 'em line up according to height?:)

The easiest method is also the rarest. If you are on the court before they are, you can count them as they enter the court. But, otherwise, I end up having to count two or three times. I try to get the far side first and then those moving over to that side before getting those closest to me. You aren't alone.

I also count multiple times, in groups of 3. Identifying them in groups speeds up the count and reduces the chance of them moving too much during the count.

I usually end up counting as many as five times. By the fifth time, I'm usually able to come up with a consistent number.

I was expecting a question about angles...

Like Snaqs, I count in groups. 3 or 4 at a time. It is a habit I picked up officiating football. If you are counting something like layup lines, I find it easier to start from the back of the line.

Counting in multiples of 3 or 4 works for me. I also count multiples after time-outs and subs. For me it always goes 2+3 or 3+2.

I also think it looks odd to see an official pointing at each player and checking them off in their count to 5. After all, its only 5. :)

Whew, I thought it was just me. Counting in groups sounds like a winner and back of layup line going forward may also help.

How does that old saw go? "There are no obtuse questions, only obtuse answers."

Very acute. You are right of course.

Boy, this thread has taken a 90 degree turn.

I also do the counting in groups, and even then it may take a couple of tries to get a consistent number. But only because I had someone tell me it wasn't cool to take my Polaroid out on the floor and count from the picture...

Nothing stops. Nothing... or you will do the hardest time there is. No more protection from the guards. I'll pull you out of that one-bunk Hilton and cast you down with the Sodomites. And the library? Gone... sealed off, brick-by-brick. We'll have us a little book barbecue in the yard. They'll see the flames for miles. We'll dance around it like wild Injuns! You understand me? Catching my drift?... Or am I being obtuse?

Welpe Wed Dec 01, 2010 11:33am

You missed a line in your quote.... :D

At least that is the theorem.
