Dog

MS boys game. Close game with home team up 37-36. Suddenly, a kids starts racing towards table and runs off court. I am in opposite corner wondering what's up. Partner blows whistle - then says it's his time.

What I didn't see was the kid puking as he ran off. So, now we try and get someone to clean up. School doesn't have night custodians - hires a part time cleaning service. Someone finally finds them and gets them to come. (7 minute wait) They look at the floor and leave. Ten minutes later they return with some of that stuff like sawdust they throw down - in about a 20 foot diameter circle. They leave - return in 5 more minutes with broom. They begin to sweep up the stuff. One sweeps the other has a dustpan like I have in my kitchen. She fills up the pan - then walks out of gym to dump it somewhere and comes back. She did this for the entire mess even when table told her to just bring a can into the gym. When all that stuff was swept - they disappeared. No disinfectant or anything. Oh yea, that stuff they threw down had an oil in it and floor was greasy the rest of the night. It took over an hour before we could actually start the game again.

Do your schools have trained staff ready to take care of bodily fluids? This AD getting an email later today!!!!!!

1. sounds like it was competitive.
2. our janitor in grade school had a lot of this stuff that he used when a kid puked in class. I think he emptied the pencil sharpeners into a big pail and used those shavings when needed. But it seemed to work. Nobody stepped near that spot for the rest of the day, so to only wait an hour is pretty good, I think.

A Bloody Mess ...

Had two varsity boys collide and bump heads once. Blood all over the place. This was back when HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, etc. were all over the news. Took a custodian, with gloves, bleach, everything except a hazmat suit, about twenty minutes to clean it up so that we could move on with the game. The injuries were not too bad, just a lot of blood.

Had blood on the floor last year; just a few drops from a nose bleed. It took 20 minutes.

Had blood on a kid last year. Went to put the ball back in play and the R noticed he had blood on him. That was when we found the blood on the ball. What a freakin mess.

About 15 years ago, there was a high school tournament game where a girl vomited on a backcourt sideline with :06 left in the game, and one team up 20 points. They spent 20 minutes cleaning up, so they could play the last six seconds.

I often wondered if there could have been a way to "play around" that for six seconds, or just end the game, under the circumstances.

Use rule 5-4-3. Get the coaches together and tell them that under the circumstance the game should be terminated in your opinion. Under the circumstances(6 seconds left, 20 point lead), they'll probably agree.
