I disagree almost entirely. Sure, change MLK day to Civil Rights Day. It's an ideal worth celebrating, but hardly achieved. As for labor day, don't be dissing on the working man. We're what makes this country work, not the pathatic yahoos we send to Washington.

OTOH, I have no desire to celebrate those events that sent us headlong into two major wars. Though, we ought to pause and remember those who perished on both days. But when it comes to celebrating a national holiday, I feel it is more appropriate to celebrate those who fought and died (Memorial Day) and the end of hostilities (Veterans Day).

As for my "very bad" joke, I was merely implying that your return to your duties at the score table would be "a day that shall live in infamy". If you feel the overpowering need to infer some kind of slight to your grandfather, well I guess you'll need to figure out how to deal with that.

So even though it was the Unions that started Labor Day, it should still be celebrated? So we should be celebrating those that get overworked but underpaid?

When I am saying make both Patriot Day & Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day into national holidays, I am meaning to remember those that lost their lives & as a reminder not to make the same mistakes over again. Concerning MLK Day into Civil Rights Day, we should be celebrating the ideals & philosophy, not one man.

Why we're at it creating holidays, why not make a Sport Officials' Appreciation Day? Since there's days for teachers, secretaries, etc.

Concerning my returning to working the table, I have been doing more studying this year concerning rules/regulations & have been attending meetings of one of the local officials' associations.

Sorry but if this is an attempt at a joke, it's a very bad one, as my maternal grandfather was a member of a labor union.

LMAO Touche

What I am meaning is that people should be getting paid what they're worth, not working their life away while earning pennies on the dollar.

This has gotten political now, so I respectfully request you stop; or else I might be too tempted to jump in and ruin my reputation (whatever it is).

+1

I've always thought that the third Monday of every month should be a holiday and we'd celebrate "all" events for that month on that day.

Don't want to celebrate labor day? Don't. Celebrate "autumnal equinox day" instead.

It will never happen, of course.
