Lightbulb Somewhat OT - Use of the Forum Search Tool

For all you newbies (and oldbies) I want to reinforce the use of the Forum Search tool.

Yesterday I was asked one of those "what if" questions by a fellow official.

Readers digest version - A1 rebounds the ball and throws it to A2. A2 doesn't see the pass coming and vacates the area running down court. A1 goes and retrieves his own "pass." What's the call?

I thought I knew the answer and what I would do, but wanted confirmation and a citation. After researching my books, it wasn't too clear to me this scenario was covered. So, I used the Search function and used the terminology "self pass."

While I got allot of misses and some really interesting past discussions (wow, Sr, JR, Rut, Camron, you guys can sure go at it.....in a good way of course). In one thread, Nevada posted a 2003-04 NFHS BASKETBALL RULES INTERPRETATION with the play that I never would have found (I don't go back that far) I was able to send this official which provided a good explanation.

Of course, in true NFHS fashion the answer was - it depends!

Just shows to go you, this Forum is a wealth of information when used correctly - thanks developers and posters!

Thumbs up

The search tool is great. I entered "plutonium" and got six post hits. Of course, now there would be seven.

Big fan of the search tool....especially during the off season when discussions are slow or there's abundance of off topic posts which do nothing for me. Heck, going back and reading some of the longest threads provide entertainment in of itself!

The Diebler thread is always good for a chuckle...if not very informative.

Good point grune, lots of great info to absorb. Not to mention the archive of interpretations posted here.

Sometimes however, I find google's search to be more useful. To restrict google to this site, just add the following to the search box:
sitefficiating.com

EDIT: (the board changed my characters into that smiley) that should be site:name_of_the_site

Google also allows many more complex search parameters than the board does...
-word excludes pages with that word
