Right call, amazing that you got there with your reasoning.

This situation is covered by 6-7-3, 4-20-3, and 6-4-3d.

In this case you have a FT, which becomes dead by virtue of the ball coming to rest on the flange. That FT is now over. The result would be a held ball and play resumed by the arrow if it were the final FT attempt, but since another FT is to follow, the game continues with the administration of that.

Of course, it is not a violation.
