IOW - he got into too much depth when explaining what was going on and why.

Hint - it was an NBA commentator.
My guess would be Rick Barry. He seems like he could be a very "detailed" guy.

That would be Dick Bavetta, not Kareem.

34 years and counting versus 20. I think that this question was a give-away on an officials' forum.

The easy answer would be Lew Alcindor, but I doubt that it's the right answer because I don't think that you would post such as easy question. The choice of the word "individual" rather than "player" leads me to believe that it's a coach, or more likely, since this is an official's forum, an official.

Barry used to work NBA games on CBS on Sundays with Don Criqui doing the play-by-play. IMO, they were the best announcing team ever. Criqui described exactly what was going on in the game while still letting the viewers enjoy the action and Barry gave true in-depth analysis of the plays and strategies. The "problem" was that Barry was too detailed for the "average" fan and he would also explain why players made mistakes - usually because they weren't as smart about the game as Barry was.

I guess they couldn't "dumb it down" enough for CBS and the American public (what H.L. Mencken called "the great unwashed") . Too bad.
