Basketball Trivia

What happened to the trivia thread that was really spam that I had hoped to rescue with a real basketball trivia question.

It must've become too on-topic and related to basketball.

OK - here's one. Which NBA franchise has existed under the most different names and what were all those names?

grunewar Mon Apr 26, 2010 05:09pm

Rats.....and I researched and answered MTD Sr.s question too. Interesting!

Without looking it up I will guess the Sacramento Kings, Kansas City-Omaha Kings, Kansas City Kings, Cincinnati Royals, Rochester Royals.

Not sure what the Baltimore Bullets were prior to that name, but they were the Capitol Bullets & Washington Bullets prior to becoming the Washington Wizards. [insert Jay Leno's joke here]

They started as the Chicago Packers, then became the Chicago Zephyrs before moving to Baltimore. They changed their name in Chicago from the Packers because there was a lot of backlash from Bears fans, as you can imagine, even though the number of meat packers in Chicago was about a few thousand more than there ever were in Green Bay, so there was some validity to the nickname.

Zephyrs; from the Latin Zephyrus, god of breaking wind.

I guess the NBA player who has had the most names is on the Spurs. He started as Anthony Parker, then became Tony Parker, now is Tony Longoria-Parker.

And you know something? I can't blame him for the last change. WOW!

Hey MTD, Sr.

What was your question?

26 Year Gap Mon Apr 26, 2010 07:55pm

Which former ABA teams now playing in the NBA have won a championship?

Mark:

Of all of the men who have coached men's basketball at the University of Kansas, only one has a losing record for his time as the Jayhawks coach. Who is he?
