Question

OK - here's a weird one. What former NBA team owner went to the same HS as me? And what two MLB all-star pitchers also went to that same HS?

If my memory serves me well, I think that you stated previously on this fourm that this person is Jerry Colangelo.

Working off the fact that Colangelo's bio states that he attended Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois (and I know that Padgett grew up in Chicago), I found one of the other alums to be "Jim Bouton is a former Major League Baseball pitcher (1962–70, 78), playing most of his career for the New York Yankees. He is also an author Ball Four."

I can't seem to find the other MLB all-star pitcher.

Bret Saberhagen 3x All Star pitcher ('82,'90,&'94)
Bio indicates that he was born in Chicago Hgts., IL, but graduated from Grover Cleveland HS, in Resedo, CA. Of course, he could have began his high school career at Bloom and then moved to CA from Chicago Hgts.

You guys are good at your research. Yes, I went to Bloom and it was Colangelo. He graduated about 8 years before I did, but I was in the same class as his sister. Also, Dick Butkus' two sisters. They were twins. Fortunately for them, not to him, just to each other.

OK - here's one. After Bill Walton played for the Blazers, one other player wore his jersey number, 32, before the team retired it. Who was it?

According to BASKETBALL-REFERENCE.COM, two Portland players wore Walton's #32 after he played for the Blazers:
Mike Harper..........'81-'82 (123 games)
and the unforgetable....
Rolando Ferreira....'89 (12 games)

Saw that, but didn't include him in my answer as I couldn't find any evidence that he attended HS in IL. Mark can tell us for sure or perhaps he had another player in mind.

Wasn't aware of Rolando, but Michael Harper is the guy. He's now an insurance agent here in Portland. BTW - Harper once donated an autographed game-worn jersey to a fundraising auction for a non-profit here and I bought it at the auction and gave it to my son. A few years later, he wore it to a Blazer Alumni Team game in which Harper was playing. Harper saw him with the jersey on and called him out to the floor to shoot two free throws for him during the game. My kid made both of them and the place went nuts. Harper and some of the other ex-Blazers high fived him. My son still talks about it every so often.

As to Bret Saberhagen, I was told he attended my school only for his freshman year, then moved. I don't know if that's accurate or not. Recently, I emailed Jim Bouton and he said the thing he liked most about our HS was the great sports programs and the think he liked least was the huge number of kids. In those days, we usually had about 4000 attending. My graduating class had 712 (I was the youngest). Here's a link to my class website, in case you're really bored and have nothing to do. It's developed and managed by one of my former classmates whose company makes computer simulated war games for the US military. Cool!

The website is full of stuff from the 60s. Also cool!
