There are times when the officiating takes center stage. The reality is that all of the games are televised (locally or nationally). Every play is reviewable and can be disected in such a way as to show different points of view depending on the motives of the person viewing the play.

The game is 48 mintues long, yet they call (on average) the same number of fouls as a HS game.

The NBA officials call what needs to be called. Back in the day there were only 2 officials and the games sometimes resembled a boxing match because they just couldn't see everything. They needed another set of eyes.

More often than not, the officials get killed for what they call, not what they miss. If you do any kind of assigning, I think that would be where you would want your officials to be.

Do they make questionable calls? Yes - but that happens at all levels. The NBA guys take care of business, sometimes they are light on the penalty, but they have more options than the rest of us.
