OT - What a play!

This play happened in the Missouri Class 5 (largest) State Championship game between Hillcrest (in Springfield) and Oakville (in South St Louis Co)

As an FYI - the dunker is listed as 5'11" and the dunkee is listed as 6'6"

What do we think about the And 1 foul on the play?

I wouldn't call a foul on that play.

Foul occurred during the pass and catch. Ball becomes dead immediately. No basket; no shots unless in bonus. Good luck selling it.

Are you saying there was a foul on #4? I disagree, the contact was incidental by rule as it created no advantage.

How about offensive foul on White? Doesn't Black have the right of vericality where he is standing? Looks like White jumped into his head and the space above his head. Just a thought, but just kidding!

I thought black was still moving laterally into the player's path after the player was airborne. I would have a foul on the play as well.

Without any advantage? I agree black was moving and is responsible for the contact; but it's incidental due to a complete lack of advantage. The shot wasn't even made marginally more difficult by the contact.

I've got nothing.

In the effort to be brief and succinct, I failed to communicate. There was a foul called on the play, evidently an "and 1" scenario. Whether I would have called the foul really would be a HTBT situation. The point to be made is that it should no way have been "and 1" as the contact was clearly before the ball was even caught, much less shot. Just because the player was intending to shoot (dunk) the ball on the alley oop cannot justify granting a basket and free-throw on the play.

I think it would be easier not to call anything in that situation than getting it right if you did. Not sure it would improve the game in relation to the coach, other players, or fans by calling the foul, waving the basket, and giving the ball out of bounds (assuming no bonus) after such a fine athletic, motivating display.

Got nothing, as well. Heck of a pass on it, too.

Same player, but what do you have here?

Looks like B1 was where he needed to be but might have given way too soon.

The first contact is not always the "foul." You could easily rule the "foul" didn't happen until he had the ball.

I recognize there was a foul called in the video; but that's one that, if I had called, I'd be kicking myself for a week.

This play is exactly why we need to watch the entire play to determine if the contact actually was a foul. If you jump on this too early and call that contact, you've taken away an easy play.

I got nothng on this play other than a "o no he diint"...."o yes he did". Looks like he was trying to make some possible taunting eye contact with the kid he just posterized. Good thing his team mates got to him. For the defenders sake, I hope all the cameramen were behind him so they couldn't see his face.

I'm good with the foul call also. B1 knew what he was doing and I don't want him making that kind of play again--he saw it was an alley-oop pass and his sole intent was to get in the path of the leaper . I'll take the heat for calling that if I have to.

We saw it differently, then. I can live with that.

It looked to me like he thought a shot had gone up and turned to block out, getting caught instead with the alley-oop pass. Your reasoning makes sense, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over the call.

Let me ask this, if you're T and L doesn't get it, would you dial?
