3 pts or 2???
Player A1 from behind the 3 point arch, throws a hard pass about 6' high into the middle of the lane and it bounces off the head of player B1 up into the air and goes through player A1's basket. 3 or 2 points?
Same play but while ball is in the air after it hits player B1 on the head, the horn sounds to end the quarter. Points? ![]() |

I'm thinking he has scored 3 points, at least in the first situation above. 5.2.1 sit C seems to cover this play. It does not indicate it has to be a try. It just says A1 throws the ball from behind the 3-point line.
In his second sit, the official would have to make the judgement that his throw was not a try (see 4-41). |

What on the off the head, there is a foul. A foul away from the ball before the shot goes in. Say A1 shot, B2 fouls A3. Count the basket? Or does the whistle cause the ball to go dead.
Or what if you tip a shot with your head and the ball somehow goes in. short guy takes a shot and tall guy goes to block it and hits off his head and goes into the basket. I would see that counting as a three if behind the line. |

![]() Hitting with the head is not a legal try or tap, so the ball would become dead on the foul (not the whistle, the foul).

Over The Arch, Nothing But Net ...
If a player can make a shot over this arch, he deserves more than just three points.

I guess it depends from which side since it is rectangular.
