Nevada would be proud

Had a blowout boys game last night, Home is down by 20 late third quarter.

Timeout over. I'm at table as trail about to resume play when C points to table, sub to enter. Nope, too late, I indicate as C gives me a quizzical look.

At next timeout, we discuss and he's old school, "hey, home team, getting killed, let 'em in" I see his point and say maybe maybe he's right. That said, good partner who I like, coach doesn't say boo. Me,I'm glad I followed rule.

What say you?

I don't let them in if they don't report by the warning horn. To me, it's different than holding things up a second when the sub would be entitled to come in.

For some reason I find it more acceptable to kill the clock during the last minute or two of a blow out to let subs in; but in this case, I'd have done what you did.

Now, if the guys who are reffing the games I want to ref tell me otherwise, I'll re-think it.

If the sub is late, make him or her wait.

If the team winning does the same immediately, would your partner let them in too?

That is a good point. I don't care what the score is, I don't change my way of officiating, even if it was 100-4 (which was the final score of a game, I think last year in Pennsylvania). You can't justify anything by saying "it's a blowout game". That was a good tip given to me by a veteran official a few years ago and I've always followed that "law" of his.

This is regional, my friend. Like it or not, I am expected to officiate blowouts slightly differently. That said, substitution rules are different.

I agree with you.

I don't agree with that. It might be the way that several in your local area do it, but it's certainly not regional. After all, I'm in your region.

LOL, fair enough. It's local.
