Atta boy!

Had a soph tourney yesterday and my partner who I drove with to our games is strictly a freshman/ Soph ref, and I do Varsity with a few holiday soph games so he values my opinion. We were talking about bench decorum and it seemed he let coaches get away with murder both head AND assistants. I quoted the line from someone here recently about assistant coaches getting out of line "I'll listen to the organ grinder but not the monkey" which he loved.

Second game, very spirited with chatter coming from both coaches. Partner calls a foul with no signal if we are shooting or ball underneath.

Before he reports, he comes to me and for some reason asks was he shooting or on the floor? I said, your call, be firm.

I go to endline to inbound and tweet, I look at partner who calmly T's up assistant who said "you don't need to ask his advice, make your own call"

Atta boy!! Bought him ice cream for ride home.

So he T'd the assistant coach for making a completely true statement about something which he just did? I don't like it at all.

You who would call a T when the mom comes to the aid of the kid with the broken neck thinks this is ok?

10-4-1a

Even if the statement is true, it can still be disrespectful.

Just Nevada being Nevada. Yes, it was said in a disrespectful way, not conversational. Furthermore, I doubt assistant could hear actual conversation, but he assumed right.

That said, the point of the thread was he took care of bidness as JR likes to say.

And JR says that he done good. No need at all to take a wiseass comment like that from an assistant coach.

Your partner did something bizarre and the coach accurately pointed it out to him, and he T'd him for it. I just don't care for a T in that situation, unless the coach uses profanity. Afterall, the coach is right and that doesn't happen often.

Coach is right

Right how? to disrespect an official in front of the crowd and his sophomore team, not to mention it was the assistant coach. I think not.

Your entitled to your opinion, however misguided it is.

Me? I'll say it again, atta boy!

According to the US constitution, assistant coaches have no rights. It's in the same amendment that says coaches cannot "call" timeouts.

Man, you can cut to the chase. That's exactly what it was, a wiseass comment.

Mark Padgett is correct. It's in the "Bill of No Rights".

Thank you PBS and World Focus.

If you are undecided about whether it was a wiseass comment, consider if the shoe were on the other foot. Would you consider it out of line if I said to the head coach, "You don't need to ask your assistant's advice, call your own plays."

Add one more vote to the Atta Boy! column.
