Mark, I tend to disagree with you about your definition of OT. In fact I feel that it can be the absolute opposite. I surely hope that when it comes close to the end of the game you don't use the possibility of overtime to influence any of your calls. If you do that would be a travesty.

SAK: As we like to say here in Connecticut, "Don't poke the bear". After only fifty posts I can guarantee that you really don't know Mark Padgett, although, I'm sure that no one, with the possible exception of Mrs. Mark Padgett, really knows Mark Padgett. Save your breath. He'll never admit that he's kidding about his stance on overtime. In fact, your post gives him an opening you can drive a truck through, so I'll pretend I'm Mark Padgett and respond:

From SAK: I feel that it can be the absolute opposite.
Probable Mark Padgett reply: I surely hope that when it comes close to the end of the game you don't use the excitement of a possible overtime to influence any of your calls.

BillyMac - I have shown this to my wife and she had one of her cousins in the Soprano family track down your contact information. The last person to refer to her as "Mrs. Mark Padgett" is swimming at the bottom of Lake Mead in cement overshoes. Expect a visit soon. It was nice knowing you.

Mark Padgett: I'm sorry. I'm sure that she prefers to be referred to as "Mrs. Skippy Weaselpants".
P.S. How did you like my Mark Padgett impersonation in replying to SAK?

And Mrs. Padgett refers to Mark as Mr Slump Buster

No, at my age it's, "Mr. Is That A 60 Second Or A 30 Second?".

I think Mrs Padget uses the NCAAW TO mechanic to call for a substitution rather than waste a precious 30 seconds

Padgett, this is all in good fun for you, BillyMac, me, and whoever else knows you. A newcomer might definitely take a different message from your post.

I know for a fact that the FBI monitors this website all the time. Don't ask me how I know, because if I tell you, I'll have to kill you. In any case, I'm sure that a SWAT team is about to converge on the Weaselpants' residence in a few minutes.

Skippy: You're next "wife's" first name might end up being "Rocky". No pun intended on the "end up" part.

Nothing in your post suggested that it was intended to be humorous.

People seem to forget that a good newcomer takes some time to get to know the people who have been posting a while before jumping in with both feet. And actually, SAK fits the mold of a good newcomer -- he already said he's been around for a while and knew what Mark was going to post.

Personally, a great game goes to OT and I feel like it's a great thing. But not all OT games are created equal -- I had a varsity girls game a few years back where the score was 24-24 after regulation and we called more fouls than that, including technicals on both head coaches. I'd rather have had painful dental work than sit through 4 more minutes of that.

In one season I had the experience of both a great and a horrible OT game. Varsity boys, home was down big early, climbed back the entire 2nd half and sent it to OT with a layup with just a few seconds left. Great game.
JV girls, small school, score tied at 18 with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter. After the first OT, the score was tied at 18.

Nov 2008, Maryland beat Vermont in OT, 89-74. Maryland tied the game with 6 seconds to go in regulation and apparently sapped all the strength and enthusiasm from Vermont who was ahead most of the second half. Md outscored Vt 17-2 in OT!

That's the most lopsided OT I've witnessed. Any others?

The varsity game I alluded to above, actually. Home had tied it with a couple seconds left after trailing by almost 20 late in the 2nd quarter. Score ended up 70-55 in OT. Home won 15-0 in OT, lots of free throws.
