Sorry But I have to disagree with deecee. It's more than needing warm bodies. In my area, there are plenty of warm bodies. Assignors for post season get a lot of pickings. When you're fortunate enough to be chosen, you can pat yourself on the back. And know that you've done a great job. You are being trusted to "not screw up". We've all seen the underdog pull out a victory over one of the top seeds. I doubt it very much if the assignor for post season would just put a warm body on these games. You should also know that people are watching. The help you get from these games are exposure. You do a good job, you'll get called back. You screw it up, it will hurt any future post season assignments and maybe your schedule for next season.

Agreed...you can't work a sectional final until you've worked a first round regional....under normal circumstances at least....and on the boys side forget about it, too much competition...

You might get games because all they need is a warm body, but don't project that to others on the board. And even if it was true, it's really not necessary or helpful to say.

Sounds like someone has sour grapes. And it's kind of a jerky thing to say. Way to go.

This is almost certainly untrue. Around here in football, we have end of season "city championship" games for some jr. high schools in various school districts. Guys trip over themselves trying to get an assignment to these games -- even guys that don't ordinarily do jr. high games during the season (and those guys are wasting their time trying to get the assignment).

I do agree that my original post came off as extremly negative. But the point I was trying to make, and failed so miserably at doing so, was that take the inital playoff games with a grain of salt. I know plenty of officials that have been getting playoff games for many years, and all they do are first round games.

Once you start getting into the later round thats when it really counts. In the end making the playoffs is a good thing for your officiating career as it is a step forward. But many officials, and I have seen this happen, think that once they get those first round games they have made it to the holy grail.

And I want to apologize to the OP for being overly negative. I was trying to pepper in reality and in turn I can see that I was out of line. For that I do apologize, and congrats on taking a step forward. Just dont get comfortable on your laurels.
