Collision with the Coach
I was hoping to get some advise on how you would handle this situation.
Team A has rebounded a missed shot by team B. Team A moves quickly toward the front court, and I am the new trail (two man mechanics), running along the table side. I am looking over my shoulder when I crash into the coach. She is at least two steps on the court when this occurs, and I fall down, but I am not injured, so what violation do I have here in your opinion? I issued a Technical foul for standing on the court. I thought a Flagrant Technical would be too harsh because it was early in the first quarter, so she had not been observed standing in the playing area. Do you think I made the correct call? Thank you for your help!

Depending on how cute she is, you may want to do this a few more times.

Let me ask you something. Is the step off the court at slot only when the ball is right in front of you?
I only ask because I've been getting mixed responses when evaluated at the slot. Some like us on the court unless the ball comes right in front of you, others don't care as long as you get the angle to make a CC. |

I once had an observer who is almost a foot shorter than me tell me that this angle is the best and that I should always be in this position to be able to officiate certain plays. No offense but my extra foot in height affords me the luxury of being able to work the court differently than this guy. Where he sees pecks and shoulders I see top of heads.

I hear you, just wish those evaluators could give you some feedback at halftime. That way they can see you make adjustments in the 2nd half & it gives them the "he's coachable" perception.
Getting it after the game is cool, but they probably aren't going to come see you work the next game. |

ROTATE! After the game, she mentioned that she'd noticed I was doing a much better job of rotating.

I'm curious though, why you were looking over your shoulder as trail... |

We have to request they come (which is why it helps we can see who the varsity refs are after our jv games) and evaluate us. I'm trying to get used to the system, though. They really didn't do official evaluations over on the WS.
