In the third of three games yesterday, I had a situation I was wondering about. I know it's one of those HTBT plays, but I was hoping you could give me your best with what I have.
I'm BU, runner on second, two man crew. BR hits a sharp grounder to F6, R1 stays but F6 fumbles with the ball a little then makes her throw in a hurry. Throw is high and probably 6 feet to the side (toward home plate). F3 starts moving toward ball and gets in basepath at the exact same time as BR, who tried to stop but didnt have time. F3, who never had a chance at the ball as it was much too high, and BR go down in a heap. BR regains senses first and dives forward to touch 1st. The ball bounced off the backstop and is lying in the dirt near the pitching circle. R1 takes 3rd, and pitcher picks up ball and heads back to circle. What should I have called? |

A Crash, Train Wreck or other no call as from you description the contact was unavoidable. Had F3 moved into foul territory and BR adjusted their base path I MAY have called OBS on the other hand had the BR established a base path in fair territory I MAY have called INT with dead ball, BR out and returned the runner to 2B.
But as you said HTBT.
