Actually had a no call similar to this late in an 8th/Boys rec game last night. H was down 2 with 4 seconds to go after V had scored. They inbound and race up sideline, V coach screaming "Don't Foul!"
As A1 approached B1, defender turns his body and starts to get out of the way from A1 who clearly changes direction at that instance to take a step away from the basket and toward B1. Launches himself into the air and grazes B1 while firing away the off-balance LONG 3-pt try. Horn goes off after the shot is away, misses by a mile. I am T and on that same side of the court, but I read no-call and let the game end.
H Coach is screaming for a blocking call because defender wasn't set, I told him his player initiated what little contact there was.
Supervisor told me as I was leaving later that night that the coach wrote down on his officials' grading card that I was terrible and needed to read the rule book about legal guarding position (he actually used that phrase!) and what constitues a block.
........sigh.........
