officials shirts

Guys, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I bought a brand new 2X officials shirt for the season, and I worked my first game right before christmas. Somehow between now and then, I have misplaced my shirt, and I have a game Tuesday. I had to special order the shirt because they didn't have any in my size. However, they did have the mesh officials shirts in my size. I'm not too familiar with the mesh shirts, but I believe I was told they are worn for college games, not high school. If I have to buy one of these shirts and wear it for my hs JV game this week, am I going to get in trouble, or will it be ok? Thanks guys

Probably a question better asked of your association or assignor than this forum. When questions come up about what is acceptable (like belted versus beltless pants) it really depends where you are on what the correct answer might be.You might get a bunch of officials telling you one thing but your association and/or assignor may feel one eighty opposite.

The mesh shirts are not specific to college. If you are talking about the side-panel shirts, those are but acceptable for high school in a lot of places. But they make the same material shirts without the side-panel. I do not know if where you live the type of material would be something an association would care about, but I have heard stranger things on this site about association requirements.

Peace

It is a good idea to have a spare...of everything. Some sporting goods stores carry officiating shirts. You might try there to get something to get you by until you get your replacement shirt[s].

I try to add a shirt or two every season. When you start workingg 3 - 5games per week, 1 or 2 uniforms wont be enough. Wear and tear both from use / sweat and washing will take its toll.

Or better yet, shower with your uniform on. Then when you get home you'll only have to put it in the dryer. Or even better yet, shower with it on, keep it on, and let it dry, then you can wear it to your next game, if you work in just another ref's association. But that's for another thread. Never mind.

To actually repsond to the original post, mesh shirts are certainly legal FED uniforms. I have 3 polyester and 1 mesh... however I'll probably add another one. They're pretty comfortable.

A very experienced assignor around here told me the mesh tend to snag easier than others, though they're comfortable as all get out. Sure enough, yesterday my latest mesh acquisition got a few pulls after just a few weeks of use -- apparently a chest-pocket zipper on a fleece jacket I wore briefly was the culprit. Any thoughts by the collective wisdom on the pros and cons of mesh or not?

Both mesh and poly have their good and bad points. To me it's just preference and the temps where you're gonna work.
