6 on the court

Situation in a V girls game tonight. Home team puts six on the court after a timeout and score before the refs notice. At that point the refs do notice and give a T to the home team. The visitor's coach asks that the score be removed from the home team since they scored with six players. Refs refuse to do so, as their explanation was they did not notice until after the basket was made. The visitors promptly missed both the technical foul shots, so they ended up with a -2 for the time the home team had 6 on the court. although I realize that is really beside the point. My question is was the interpretation correct and the basket could not be taken off the board?

Yep. Nothing made the ball dead prior to the goal being scored, so it stands.
