Why the Seeming Discrepancy?

2-10-5, on the topic of correctible errors, says, "Points scored...prior to the recognition of an error, shall not be nullified."

But 2.10.1.G says, "A1 is fouled prior to the bonus, but erroneously A1 is awarded a one-and-one. The error is discovered: ... (b) after A1 makes both. RULING: In ... (b), the successful free throw(s) is cancelled..."

The rule seems to state that points cannot be nullified; the casebook states clearly that points can be nullified.

Can you help me understand the obvious point I'm missing here?

(happened tonite--we applied the casebook situation)

Think of this situation. A1 fouled on a three point attempt. Officials erroneously give A1 only 2 shots. A3 rebounds the missed 2nd shot and makes a basket. During the dead ball, the officials realize the error and award A1 his last free throw. A3's basket does not get nullified.

The only points that can be nullified are the ones that were the error (unmerited free throws, counting a three instead of two).

Yes, but 2-10-4 says that unmerited FTs are cancelled.

So, 2-10-5 means "Other" points ... are not nullified.
