OSU vs Miami
Big 10/ACC Challenge
Miami leading scorer (McClinton, Sr.) ejected in first half for a flagrant foul.......a retaliatory swipe at Ohio State defender (Crater, Freshman). Announcers are all over the fact that the refs "missed the first shoulda call" on Crater who smacked McClinton right in the face and got McClinton for the retaliation swipe. More importantly, a Diebler sighting......of course, announcer states the infamous "Diebler hasn't missed a foul shot all year"......and then he missed his last of three.

Diebler had a good second half and ended up with 20 in the win.
McClinton is the ACC's leading scorer and had hit 4 - three-pointers in the first eight minutes before being ejected...... On to the next game now - Purdue vs Duke.....and Dickie V is in the house.....

What is "reviewable" in NCAA?
I profess my ignorance here to college rules. From a story on last night's game:
"The senior guard was ejected for a flagrant foul midway through the first half after he took a swipe with the palm of his hand at Anthony Crater, brushing his face. The contact came almost immediately after Crater hit McClinton in the face while guarding him." "Crater fell briefly to his knees in pain but remained in the game. The officials consulted a TV replay, then ejected McClinton." I don't believe the refs called the foul until after the replay. So, other than buzzer beaters, what can be reviewed at this level? Thanks.

Television replay equipment may be used to determine if a flagrant foul occurred. |

The initial contact could be incidental -- looks like player is going for the ball. However, you *could* call a foul on that -- but it is very difficult to see real-time and from the angle in the video. The second contact is easier because the player grabs his face -- an indicator 99% of the time that he was hit in the eye (1% of the time they are faking b*%tards!)
If there is the possibility of a flagrant foul we have to go to the monitor, so when the officials go to the monitor they might see the first contact, but they cannot go back and call it a foul at that point. But they can confirm that his reaction was flagrant and toss him, which is what he did. |
