Correctable error situation

A1 is fouled in the act of shooting, and the shot goes. Administering official tells the players "2 shots" and bounces the ball to the thrower. Player on the block asks the official, "Shouldn't it be 1?" Before the official can blow it back and re-administer it, the free thrower shoots. And misses. Player on the block and the offensive player next to her both attempt to rebound. Offensive player knocks the ball out of bounds. All other players remain stationary.

What's the fix?

Sounds to me like the comment by the official didn't prevent both teams from attempting to rebound. Therefore, the case play says to continue play as normal. In this situation that would be a throw-in for the defensive team.

Okay, so you consider two out of six going for the rebound to be sufficient here?

I am with you. Go to case play 8.6.1.

8.6.1c seems to point to Nevada's answer, since one player from each team attempted to rebound.

Depends on what your definition of several is. What if only the free thrower and an another player from behind the 3 pt line attempt to rebound?

This is a breakdown in communication between the crew, we need to reaffirm how many shots we have and one member of the crew would have caught this before the ball left the leads hand. Don't go brain dead on dead balls.

Of course -- but if that always happened, there'd be no reason for rule 2-10.

THe officials need to decide whether a team was disadvantaged by the erroneous information. If so, apply 8.6.1 (a) and (b). If not, apply (c)

In the OP, you are correct. However, table crew could screw up the team foul counts. So, it's good to know what to do when it does happen.
