Actually, Josh's friends are pretty well scattered at U of O, OSU and, for some reason, Pepperdine.

However, just the other day, he ran into a kid he went to HS with who was one of those kids who always bragged about how he was going to attend some Ivy League school, then breeze through med school and then become some fabulously wealthy brain surgeon. You know the type - incredibly arrogant and condescending.

The kid is working at a Jiffy Lube.

Anyway, this Friday, I'm wearing shorts and I am not, repeat not, shaving my legs. :p

Regarding, Evergreen College, I can't believe that you've never heard of it. It is (or was at one time) a very liberal college with a lot of experimenting (educational and otherwise) in its past. I'm not sure where it is in Washington, but I'm thinking Olympia? Tacoma? They were one of the colleges in the '60s and '70s that tried "open classrooms" and "flexible schedules" and no grades, and other radical ideas. People would go there if they wanted to major in Philosophy of Basketweaving and Paradigm Psychology and stuff like that. Lots of artists. Lots of hippies (this was back in the dinosaur era...). And a very hip reputation. I'm pretty sure it's still in operation, although I haven't been wrong yet this month, so I suppose it might be about time... Josh must run in the wrong circles if none of his friends went there.

Technically, it is called The Evergreen State College and is (I think) a UW spin-off. My older son graduated from there in 1997 with a degree in Environmental Science and he works for the National Fisheries part of NOAA. Chris is very smart (takes after his mom), but has some very strange ways of looking at life in general. He loved the school because of the open class rooms and no set structure. He signed a "contract" with his advisor where they mutually agreed on what he would take for a quarter (16 hours) and he could either come to class or not -- his choice. He was required to turn in certain material at certain points during the quarter.At the end of the "contract" period, he and his advisor would go over what he accomplished, and if my son deviated from the "agreed to" course work, he may or may not receive credit for part, or possibly none, of the crdits. Weird! First time I visited the campus, I thought I had stepped back into the 60's -- tie dyed T-shirts, long hair, sandals, and non-shaved legs (women :D). Looked like a Grateful Dead concert.

In Colorado we have 5% Income Tax and 3% sales tax. Of course every county and municpality adds to the sales tax so that the best of the cities, Colorado Springs has 6.1% and the worst Boulder is 8.5%. These numbers could be out of date since I didn't keep up with the election issues last year. All the voters have to do is vote and they have more taxes.
