It depends.
Do they come off the bench to fight? Do they come off the bench and help break up the fight? There is a difference in how the coach is assessed Technical Fouls. Rule 10-4-5. Peace

the head coach is assessed a maximum of one indirect technical foul. if they do not participate.
The head coach is assessed one indirect technical foul for each bench player participating in the fight.

So if a fight breaks out on the court and players come over the court to break up the fight, are they considered to be involved in the fight?
I don't believe that the rule book differentiates whether a player is trying to break up the fight or not. My reason is that if a coach comes onto the court unbeckoned and breaks up the fight, he is charged with a flagrant foul. (Please note that in 99.999999% of the cases he is beckoned in my opinion "automatically" ). I sure don't think the rule book gives a player the option of breaking up a fight without being beckoned (which I would 100% never beckon a player to do) Just a thought -Josh Last edited by jdmara; Wed Oct 29, 2008 at 04:28pm. |

Nobody Saw It, Or Heard It, But We Beckoned The Coach ...
We've been told by our local interpreter that if the coach is helping to break up the fight, then he has been beckoned, even if we didn't beckon him. Same thing with serious injuries.

The "Baddest Bad Boy" Played High School Basketball Here In Connecticut ...
Isn't that what happened in the WNBA this past summer, involving assistant coach Rick Mahorn ?
