I just wanted to know what other officials thought of the last foul called on Baron Davis.....this fould caused him to foul out....I was told that as a ref unless you really have to call the foul, you should never foul out the superstar...and in this situation I thought this would apply....please let me know what you others may have done in that situation

(it was the holding foul on davis that took place in the paint on a rebound)

Be careful here with this. I didn't see the play so I can't
comment on whether the foul was deserved or not and I
know that at this level (NBA) fouling out a star might cause
trouble for the ref, especially in a big game. But in
general a foul is a foul, period. Nothing wrong with
"protecting" the starters, if you need to choose between a
starter & a bench guy then you might give the foul to the
bench guy. Other than that call your game.

Well considering Shaq has fouled out a couple of times in the NBA Finals before. I remember Larry Bird fouling out and many other Hall of Famers foul out of playoff games several times over the years, I think your theory or way of thinking does not quite wash. I have never really seen this star treatment that many feel is there.

Superstars are usually "Superstars" because they are better and smarter players. Those players to not get silly fouls most of the time. I think that is why you might think you see star players not foul out as often.

Just my opinion.

Peace

The officials called the game consistant. That same call was not only made a couple times earlier, but it was called the next trip down at the other end. I don't know the player davis fouled but he definitely locked on to his arm and wouldn't let go. The other player tried jumping up for the rebound and you could still see how his right shoulder couldn't go up b/c Davis had his arm. Easy call and an advantage call.

I'm not sure this has a specific application to the original question, but remember that Wilt never fouled out in his entire career - regular season or playoffs.

He never struck out either! There's 20,000 witnesses to that.

I guess I've been doing it wrong.
