nets game--fouling out davis

I just wanted to know what other officials thought of the last foul called on Baron Davis.....this fould caused him to foul out....I was told that as a ref unless you really have to call the foul, you should never foul out the superstar...and in this situation I thought this would apply....please let me know what you others may have done in that situation

(it was the holding foul on davis that took place in the paint on a rebound)
