I think alot of us think that officiating is an after school activity. Officiating is a privillage, as an official is my belief that you should work hard to maintain your body year round. Doing this a month before the season or even during the season isn't going to cut it. Alot of us make a decent amount of money officiating so invest some of it in yourself and join a health club or something. Appearance is half the battle.

Post It's not the weight, it's the shape!

I don't mean the shape of your body, I mean the shape your body's in.

I haven't had a game in over a month, but spring league starts this Saturday, and I have seven games this weekend.

I know I'll be huffin' and puffin'.

Anyone know a good massage therapist around here? Juulie - any help???

And - as to "looking" like an athlete - ask Craig Stadler.

Of course we all know golfers aren't really athletes.

Actually, I said that once as a joke in front of Peter Jacobsen. He was watching a game I was doing here in Portland and before the game, I was joking with my partner and was able to work that into the conversation. Fortunately, Peter has a great sense of humor and he knew I was kidding. If not, he might have hit me with a five iron.

to say that I'm "out of shape". I won't bore you with my
excersize routine but believe me it's pretty intense &
comprehensive - in fact I usually gain a few in December
because I'm too busy working basketball to do my normal workout, then I level out & finally drop a few by the end of
February. But I said I wouldn't bore you so I won't.
Believe me, I was not trying to disparage you in any way, I was making a comment about the number of people that stop exercising once the season is over and put on the pounds. Everyone's weight will fluctuate some--I am advocating the need to stay in shape all the time. People who do this know that they will feel better and have more energy than those who don't. Maybe I don't deliver the message very well, but I am a supporter of anyone who wants to or is into regular exercise--especially if they are my partner on the court.

And speaking of over-use injury, MP, you better tape those tootsies and wrap your shins. Seven a day will take it out of anyone's dogs! Especially after a month of RnR.

I meant I have seven over the weekend, four on Saturday and three on Sunday. It's a good thing these are running clock games with 20 minute halves and each team gets only two 30 second TOs per half (and no fulls) with no carryover. The games start every hour on the hour. And, of course, I do not allow or recognize overtimes.

You're right about being prepared. Since this is spring league, we can wear shorts and I intend to wear my micromesh jerseys.

Also, to protect against muscle pulls, I wear compression shorts. But - that was probably more than you wanted to know.
