I've been working on this all morning and I think I've got it worked out exactly the way you recommended.

I know that other teams will complain about the by, especially since my team is ranked number 1 and will be getting it.

The nice thing about setting it up this way is that teams will get at least 2 games, and some of the teams will get up to 5. I think most of the teams will be able to live with this.
