Couple of tough calls in the 11th.
Runner was safe at 2nd, on the steal. R2 was safe at home on the hit to F8. |

I'm rooting for another tie. They've made such a farce out of the All-Star game anyway that it would be fitting.
Send the MLB brass back to the boardroom with their tails between their legs. |

Sox are in the tank in Anaheim, so I can't bring myself to talk about the AL East. But in speaking about California, it's nice to see Nomar have a standout game against Arizona last night. He was 2-4 and made a fantastic throw to nail a runner at the plate. I hope he can stay healthy from here on out.

When Big Papi comes back this weekend, either him or Manny is gonna have to play a position if the BoSox wanna get both their bats in the lineup. Of course, I say that knowing that the Yankees are leading the free world in first basemen/DH's. Lemme see...we got Giambi, Sexson, Betemit, Posada 'cause his arm is gone... and if Matsui and Damon weren't both on the DL. one of them would have to DH too. |
Speaking of DHs:
An "unnamed" Hall of Famer at the All-star game told Leyland that Sheffield's hands were a little too high, and Leyland passed that information on to Sheffield. Since the break, Sheffield has gone 4-11 for a .364 average (only 4 games) and has raised his average from .218 to a whopping .225. :) |
Spent the past week in WA visiting my grandson and my son and I took in the Friday night game between the Mariners and the Indians, and won by the Mariners. This was my first visit to Safeco Field (been to the Kingdome 5-6 times), and it is a nice stadium. Raul Ibanyez (sp?) hit a grandslam in the 4th. We stayed and watched the roof being slid (is that a word?) back in place. Cool! As the MasterCard commercial says 2 tickets @ $28 each, plus 2 BBQ sandwiches @ $10 each, plus 6 beers (2 of us, 3 each) @ $8.50 each equals $127. 3+ hours with my son = priceless!!

So it was named after a person, long before corporations (other than the team itself) thought of naming stadiums for advertising reasons. I'm out to get rid of the corporate names, but I'm willing to allow them if they bear an actual person's name. |
