Couple of tough calls in the 11th.

Runner was safe at 2nd, on the steal.

R2 was safe at home on the hit to F8.

And you are 1 for 2. :p

The lead foot glanced the catcher's mitt on the way in.

Cool. I'd hate to see an all-star game not end on a missed call.

I'm rooting for another tie. They've made such a farce out of the All-Star game anyway that it would be fitting.

Send the MLB brass back to the boardroom with their tails between their legs.

Sox are in the tank in Anaheim, so I can't bring myself to talk about the AL East. But in speaking about California, it's nice to see Nomar have a standout game against Arizona last night. He was 2-4 and made a fantastic throw to nail a runner at the plate. I hope he can stay healthy from here on out.

Aw geeze, I was waiting for you to comment on Manny's great defensive play in Friday night's game. You know, the one where he turned a soft liner into a 200 foot triple. Think it's a coincidence that he never saw left field again in the two games after that?:D

When Big Papi comes back this weekend, either him or Manny is gonna have to play a position if the BoSox wanna get both their bats in the lineup.

Of course, I say that knowing that the Yankees are leading the free world in first basemen/DH's. Lemme see...we got Giambi, Sexson, Betemit, Posada 'cause his arm is gone... and if Matsui and Damon weren't both on the DL. one of them would have to DH too.

Speaking of DHs:
An "unnamed" Hall of Famer at the All-star game told Leyland that Sheffield's hands were a little too high, and Leyland passed that information on to Sheffield.
Since the break, Sheffield has gone 4-11 for a .364 average (only 4 games) and has raised his average from .218 to a whopping .225. :)

Spent the past week in WA visiting my grandson and my son and I took in the Friday night game between the Mariners and the Indians, and won by the Mariners. This was my first visit to Safeco Field (been to the Kingdome 5-6 times), and it is a nice stadium. Raul Ibanyez (sp?) hit a grandslam in the 4th. We stayed and watched the roof being slid (is that a word?) back in place. Cool! As the MasterCard commercial says 2 tickets @ $28 each, plus 2 BBQ sandwiches @ $10 each, plus 6 beers (2 of us, 3 each) @ $8.50 each equals $127. 3+ hours with my son = priceless!!

You must've missed the memo, but the park was renamed Landes Field, in honor of Seattle's first female mayor. Houston's ballpark was also renamed Covington Field, in honor of the city's first African-American doctor, who also established the first hospital for the city's black population.

I'm on a mission, here. Who's next? How about Detroit? Got any suggestions, Mick?

So, was Wrigley Field named to honor the Doublemint Twins?

It was named after my brother's dog.

Was the dog an indentical twin or a fraternal twin?

From Wickipedia: Wrigley Field "was built in 1914 as Weeghman Park for the Chicago Federal League baseball team, the Chicago Whales. It was also the home of the Chicago Bears of the National Football League from 1921-1970. It was also called Cubs Park from 1920 to 1926 before finally being renamed for then Cubs team owner and chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr.."

So it was named after a person, long before corporations (other than the team itself) thought of naming stadiums for advertising reasons. I'm out to get rid of the corporate names, but I'm willing to allow them if they bear an actual person's name.
